Happy Fourth of July!

The Fourth of July holiday offers us at least two reasons to pause and reflect. One is that this long weekend is often a time to gather with family and friends and experience some of the community feeling so many of us cherish. I truly hope that those of you who have the opportunity to experience the holiday with loved ones get to do so. Those of you who know me know that my immediate family is extremely dear to me. So too is the extended family of which we are all a part — so, to the VNS Health family, Happy July 4th.

The second is that the holiday commemorates the day when the Declaration of Independence was officially adopted in 1776. The very word independence connects to the work you all do every day. In our day-to-day work, independence means helping people live and function safely in their own homes and communities. And it means making sure people have access to the health care and other resources they need to thrive as individuals and as a society, which is what our organization’s history — and our mission — is all about.

In that spirit, thank you for the great work you’re all doing to carry out that mission. I hope you have a wonderful time getting together with family and friends over the holiday to enjoy good food, summer breezes, and some amazing fireworks displays.
