VNS Health, in collaboration with 1199SEIU and LaGuardia College, is excited to announce a new apprenticeship program that will train you to become a Certified Community Health Worker – for FREE!

What is a “Community Health Worker?”

Community Health Workers (CHWs) are public health professionals whose main responsibility is to help connect people with health care or social service systems by providing outreach, basic health education, referrals and follow-up service, case management and home visiting services. Community Health Workers are an important resource for communities and healthcare organizations, connecting individuals and families to services and information they need.

Here is what you need to know about the program:

  • This opportunity will start on Monday, March 10, 2025.
  • It will consist of:
    • The opportunity to earn while you learn.
    • A hybrid training schedule, with 13 hours a week of classroom training (208 total classroom hours) through LaGuardia College.
    • A flexible work schedule through VNS Health, with 1,000 total work hours needed to complete the program.
  • You will receive:
    • A “Community Health Worker” Certificate upon completion of the program.
    • College credits to use towards an Undergraduate Degree with LaGuardia College.
  • You can continue working at VNS Health while completing the program and after you finish.
  • This is a free opportunity for VNS Health Home Health Aides.
