“Doing for Others”: Honoring Martin Luther King Jr.

Dear Colleagues,

This Monday, January 15th, we observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This year’s holiday falls on Dr. King’s actual birthday—and as always, it’s an opportunity to honor his memory and what he stood for.

Sixty-seven years ago, on a warm summer’s day, Dr. King said to an audience in Montgomery, Alabama: “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’”

Dr. King dedicated his own life to answering this question. Whatever challenges he faced, and whatever injustices he was fighting against, he always acted on the principle that our true calling as human beings is to serve a cause greater than ourselves.

Here at VNS Health, that persistent and urgent question also drives what we do. Making a difference in people’s lives is at the core of our mission. Every day, in every corner of our organization, team members are helping others—whether it’s a member of our Health Plans, a Behavioral Health client, or a Home Care, Hospice or Personal Care patient.

Thank you for all you do for others. And thank you for joining me in saluting Dr. King on this special day.
