June 20, 2025
Dear Colleagues,
New York City is currently under a heat advisory from Sunday, June 22, 2025, through 9pm on Thursday, June 26, 2025. Heat indices are forecasted to reach at least 95 degrees beginning Sunday and up to 105 degrees or higher on Tuesday. See below for tips to beat the heat.
🧍♂️ Stay Safe & Cool
- Use Air Conditioning: If you don’t have AC, visit someone who does or go to a cooling center. Call 311 or visit maps.nyc.gov/oem/cc to find one near you.
- Check on Vulnerable Individuals: Older adults (60+), people with heart disease, diabetes, mental health conditions, or cognitive impairments are at higher risk. Help them find a cool place to stay.
- Never Leave Children or Pets in Cars: Even for a few minutes—it can be deadly.
- Avoid the Sun: Stay indoors during peak sun hours (11:00 AM–4:00 PM).
- Limit Strenuous Activity: If needed, do it early in the morning (4:00–7:00 AM).
- Stay Hydrated: Drink water every 15 minutes, even if you’re not thirsty.
- Eat Light: Choose small, frequent meals.
- Dress Smart: Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.
- Take Breaks: If working outdoors, rest often in the shade and drink water.

🐾 Keep Pets Safe
- Hydration is Key: Ensure pets have plenty of fresh, clean water.
- Walk During Cooler Hours: Avoid hot asphalt—walk pets in the early morning or evening.
- Watch for Overheating: Signs include excessive panting, difficulty breathing, drooling, weakness, or collapse.
